Spent a day on a boat tour, visiting a moonstone mine, turtle hatchery,a herb and cinnamon plantation, tsunami monuments and a mask factory. The rest of the week we spent relaxing on the beach, enjoying the sunsets and checking out Hikkaduwa's shops and restaurants.A boat ride through the mangroves, stopped at a 'quiet' Buddist island !Moonstone miningLast night in Hikkaduwa ... | A monitor lizard looking for lunchOur favourite leather shop!Danny with "The Cool Spot" restaurant guys - he helped them revise their Club Sandwich!Monument to the 1700 who lost their lives when the train they were on was hit by the tsunami 10 years agoTuk-tuks - Sri Lanka's taxis! |
We went for a walk through Souq Waqif today - a huge, colorful market with a maze of shops which offer fabric, pots, pets, spices, gold...
This employee is waiting for his client to finish shopping. They use a wheelbarrow to carry purchased items for shoppers and wait outside the shops for them. This guy has used a rope to secure the lady's purchases.
We live in the area of Al Sadd, one of the zones in the city of Doha-
Zone 38, Street 855, Building 10. There are 8 teachers living in the apartments in this building - 2 per floor, all newbies except Doris and Carl. We are on the fourth floor, neighbours to Doris and Carl, our fellow Nova Scotians. They have been amazing with helping us settle into living in Doha.(see their little Suzukis in the covered building parking area)
Getting settled in, finding our way around and acclimatizing to the heat!!!
On Friday, the first day of the weekend here, we went on a HopOn, HopOff bus tour of the city.
The pic above was taken along the corniche, a 7km waterfront promenade in the city - very beautiful. The pic below was on the bus at a stop along the corniche,as you can see it was somewhat breezy and my hair was attacking Danny!
Danny was impressed with the two Car Showrooms -the Al Fardan Sports showroom that sells Maserati and Ferrari and the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars showroom!
